EQUICARES’ contribution to “The Maze of Mental Health Access”
As part of The European Researchers’ Night held in Seville, EQUICARES represented by our partner FISEVI, actively participated at the event “The Maze of Mental Health Access,” organised by the University of Seville together with the research groups INNOVATION IN CARE AND SOCIAL DETERMINANTS OF HEALTH (CTS-969) and CTS-1050, from the Department of Nursing.
This “escape room”–style activity invited participants to overcome a series of challenges that represented real-life barriers faced by people when trying to access the mental health care system.
EQUICARES contributed to the event by providing its community-based perspective and expertise in promoting inclusive and equitable access to mental health services. Specifically:
-
We helped highlight the importance of reducing structural (economic, cultural, and social) barriers that hinder access to mental health care for vulnerable populations.
-
We supported the design of the maze’s scenarios to ensure they reflected real barriers experienced by groups such as migrants and Roma communities— in line with EQUICARES’ mission.
-
We assisted during the activity by engaging with participants, collecting their reflections about the obstacles they encountered.
-
We promoted awareness of mental health as a human right and as a key component of social cohesion, showing in an experiential way that many barriers remain invisible to those who do not face them.
