FISEVI convened the first co-creation workshop on 17 June at the Commissioner’s Office for Polígono Sur in Seville, drawing 46 participants from public administrations, social organisations, academia, and civil society, alongside community members from the groups the Lab aims to serve, to co-design more inclusive mental health solutions in Seville.

Alongside a presentation of EQUICARES’ preliminary results in Seville, the workshop set the initial direction for the Smart Health Lab, the Community Well-Being Laboratory, covering its mission, structure, potential members and roles, participation channels, digital tools, sustainability, and recommendations for the project’s AI-based assistant, which will support users and stakeholders by facilitating access to relevant mental health information, resources, and guidance.

The discussion surfaced three challenges participants agreed needed urgent attention: strengthening transcultural competence and health literacy among socio-health professionals and users, easing the strain on limited and poorly coordinated socio-health resources, and moving away from a system where care is activated mainly in moments of crisis, toward a more preventive approach. Migrants, the Roma population, and children and adolescents emerged as the priority groups for the Lab’s work. Participants also landed on the name LABICOM – Community Well-Being Laboratory, which was chosen to reflect a focus on well-being and community, rather than on problems alone, while highlighting the Lab’s participatory and community-based approach to developing more inclusive mental health solutions.

The workshop also drew local and professional media attention. Local outlet 101 TV attended in person, and coverage followed from Diario de Sevilla, Cadena SER, and the Seville Nursing Association, helping consolidate an initial collaboration network for LABICOM’s future development.

Overall, the workshop was highly participatory and helped establish a strong initial network for our Smart Health Lab in Spain, as a community innovation space aimed at improving well-being, equity, and access to mental health resources in Seville.
