On June 5, 2026, EQUICARES consortium partners participated in two meaningful public events in Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria, timed to coincide with the consortium’s 4th Partners Meeting hosted by AMALIPE.

A roundtable discussion titled “Mental Health Without Barriers” was held at Veliko Tarnovo Municipality Hall, bringing together decision-makers, local Roma communities, Roma mediators, NGO representatives, and members of the academic community. The roundtable highlighted the importance of accessible mental health support and inclusive community engagement, themes that align closely with the EQUICARES mission. Live interpretation was provided to ensure full participation across language groups. More Info on the study is available here.

Partners also attended the 21st Roma Children Festival “Open Heart”, a national event that brings together young people from across Bulgaria to promote intercultural dialogue, tolerance, and active civic participation. The festival serves as a platform for sharing good practices, showcasing youth initiatives, and advancing social inclusion and equal opportunities. The day concluded with a parade through the main streets of Veliko Tarnovo alongside festival participants.

Together, these events highlighted the need for culturally sensitive, community-based mental health approaches that address barriers such as stigma, social exclusion and unequal access to support services for vulnerable communities, particularly Roma youth and families.
