EQUICARES Online Information Event by LGBT Ireland

On Friday, September 12th, 2025, LGBT Ireland hosted an online information event within the framework of the EQUICARES project.

About the Event

The session introduced EQUICARES to Irish stakeholders, highlighting its goals, pilot activities, and opportunities for involvement. Adam McBride, Head of Services and Engagement Programs, and Dr. Mira Fey, EQUICARES Research Lead at LGBT Ireland, shared insights into LGBTI contributions and their involvement in the EQUICARES project. Attendees gained an understanding of the project’s research focus on barriers to mental health access and the pivotal role of LGBT Ireland as a pilot partner.

Key Highlights

  • Smart Health Lab (from 2026): Research findings will inform the co-development of a Smart Health Lab in South Dublin, Wicklow, and Dún Laoghaire. The lab will promote mental health awareness, enhance digital literacy, and pilot digital tools such as an AI chatbot to support LGBTQI+ communities.

  • Co-creation approach: Local community members, mental health services, county councils, and other organisations will be engaged to shape the lab’s format and activities.

  • Opportunities to collaborate: Stakeholders were invited to contribute through awareness-raising, participation in workshops, input to project reports, and membership in the Advisory Group.

Looking Ahead

The Smart Health Lab is planned to run until 2028, with the ambition of making its tested solutions a permanent part of Irish mental health support. The event served as an important step in building connections with local stakeholders and setting ground for future co-creation.
